Custom Made Amplifier Board from Crystal Studios

This is a Custom Made Amplifier Board from Crystal Studios. Sound engineer Andrew Berliner and his team hand built Crystal's Amplifier Boards. Their unique circuitry/technology became legendary. Crystal's Amplifier Boards helped deliver some of musics greatest artists including recording and creating Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. These are truly one of a kind and are some of the most important units in music history.

The Crystal Studios Collection

We welcome this special and historical collection of gear to ANALOGr.

Originally built as a post office in 1950, sound engineer Andrew Berliner converted the building in 1967 into a premier recording facility. The studio was called Crystal Industries Recording Studio. With its innovative acoustic and electrical design, Crystal Studios recorded some of musics greatest artists, including Barbra Streisand, Jimi Hendrix, Jackson 5, War, The Doors, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Marvin Gaye, The Byrds, Supertramp, and possibly best known for recording and creating Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life.

What made Crystal Studios so ideal was you could record, mix, and master your album all in one building. On top of that, Crystal had the most cutting edge technology. Berliner and his team hand built all of their consoles and their unique circuitry and technology became legendary.

Wonder's Grammy Award-Winning Producer/Engineer Bob Margouleff explains, "With that console at Crystal, I worked on hit albums by Stevie Wonder, Weather Report and countless others. It sounded wonderful and to this day, I still haven't heard anything better. The passive gain structure is very unusual and the sound is unique in its clarity and transient response. I love those big knobs, so easy to read. The studio's designer/builder Andrew berliner had a brilliant mind."

In the late 80s, the studio was purchased by musician Roy Bittan "The Professor", best known for being the long-time member, pianist, & songwriter of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. The studio continued to record music and was the studio where Bruce and his band rehearsed his tenth studio album, Lucky Town (1992). By the late 90s, Roy decided it was time to move on and dismantled the studio, taking this Collection of Gear with him, including Crystal Studios coveted hand built Pre Amps and EQs.

To say this collection is historical is an understatement.
